Mary Fanning has worked at WVU Medicine since 1983 and is currently vice president of nursing clinical services and associate chief nursing officer of WVU Medicine Children’s.
In her current roles, Fanning is responsible for the overall functioning of the hospital and the Outpatient Infusion Center. In addition, she has oversight of professional programs, such as American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet® designation and several clinical support programs.
Fanning is a native of McDowell County and was raised in Welch, West Virginia. She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from the WVU School of Nursing. She holds a certification in advanced nursing administration. In 2015, she was inducted as a fellow of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) Institute of Regulatory Excellence (IRE). She completed a six-year term on the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses and currently serves as a Magnet® Appraiser for the ANCC.
