Steve Antoline and Steve Ferguson

Steve Antoline, who co-chairs the WVU Medicine Children’s “Grow Children’s” capital campaign with former WVU and NFL quarterback Jeff Hostetler, collaborated with longtime friend, Steve Ferguson, to support the patients and families treated throughout West Virginia and neighboring areas. The Mountain Lakes Region (MLR) fundraising effort raised more than $500,000 for new WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.

Ferguson and Antoline sought donations via letters, emails, and phone calls, explaining the far-reaching impact the hospital and its clinics have on the state and region. As a bonus incentive, Ferguson volunteered to match individual donations.

Their initiative supports the “Grow Children’s” capital campaign, which seeks to raise $60 million for a new children’s hospital that will provide comprehensive healthcare services for kids and families within a dedicated state-of-the-art facility. The 150-bed, nine-story hospital is under construction next to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, which houses existing WVU Medicine Children’s services on its sixth floor.

An accountant by training and West Virginia University alum, Ferguson is the president of Northside Development in Summersville, West Virginia. He is a member of the West Virginia Hospital Association board and supported a $3 million capital campaign as board chair for Summersville Regional Medical Center, which joined the WVU Medicine family in 2019.

Antoline, from Mount Lookout, West Virginia, is a West Virginia University alum and member of the WVU Medicine Children’s Leadership Council. He was the founder of Superior Highwall Miners, Inc., a Beckley-based company. Additionally, he and his son, Kris, continue to operate various businesses throughout the state.

Including funds from the MLR effort, more than $52 million has been raised for the new WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. The facility is slated to open in 2021.
